The Challenge
What the client needed
More Than a Restaurant Website
Rockland Grub already had a website through Wix, but the owner wanted more control over what the website could actually do.
The first priority was getting the restaurant onto a platform that could be customized around the business rather than working within the limitations of a template. Rockland Grub needed a website that could grow with the restaurant and support more than basic pages, photos, and links.
For a restaurant, the website is often part of the actual customer experience. Guests use it while deciding where to eat, looking through the menu, planning a private event, making a reservation, or figuring out what they want before speaking with a server.
The goal was to build a custom website that could handle those different situations while still feeling like Rockland Grub.
Making the Menu Part of the Experience
A traditional PDF menu would have been easy to add, but it would not have solved what the owner wanted.
Rockland Grub has different menus and different ways customers interact with them. Instead of treating every menu the same, we wanted each one to have an experience built around how it would actually be used.
For the dine-in menu, we also considered what happens when the restaurant gets busy.
A guest may already know what they want while their server is helping another table. Rather than trying to remember everything or having the server quickly write down a long list, the website needed a way for customers to browse the menu and organize their selections before speaking with the server.
Private Events Needed More Than a Contact Form
Rockland Grub also hosts private events and catering, which created another challenge.
A normal form asking for a name, phone number, and message would still leave most of the work for later. Staff would have to explain the available packages, collect food selections, determine the number of guests, discuss add-ons, and work through pricing with the customer.
We wanted the website to handle more of that process before the inquiry ever reached the restaurant.
At the same time, reservations, catering requests, and private event inquiries needed to reach the staff in a way that was organized and easy to follow up on.
The challenge became much bigger than rebuilding a restaurant website. We were building customer-facing tools and the internal system needed to manage what came through them.
The Solution
What we built
Phase One: Moving Rockland Grub Off Wix
The first phase was rebuilding Rockland Grub's website outside of Wix and giving the restaurant a platform we could fully customize.
This gave us the freedom to build around how Rockland Grub actually operates instead of choosing features based on what a website builder allowed.
The new site kept the personality of the restaurant while creating room for custom menus, reservations, private events, staff tools, and future integrations.
Phase Two: Building a Better Menu Experience
Once the new foundation was in place, we focused on the experience the owner wanted customers to have.
Rockland Grub now has three separate menu experiences, allowing each menu to work around its purpose rather than displaying everything the same way.
For the dine-in menu, customers can browse categories, search for dishes, filter the menu based on dietary preferences, and build a list of what they are interested in ordering.
That list can then be shown to the server.
It is a small change in the dining experience, but a useful one. During a busy service, customers do not have to repeat a long order from memory and servers have a clearer reference for what the table selected.
We also created custom graphics and visual elements for the menus so the experience feels like part of Rockland Grub rather than a third-party menu embedded into the website.
Turning Private Event Inquiries Into an Actual Booking Process
Private events received their own custom experience as well.
Instead of asking customers to submit a general catering form and wait for someone to explain everything later, we built an interactive event package system.
Customers can compare Rockland Grub's available packages, see the per-person pricing, choose menu items, select quantities, and build an event around what they actually want.
The website handles the pricing as the customer makes their selections, giving them a much clearer idea of what their event will cost before they submit the inquiry.
This gives the customer more information up front while giving Rockland Grub a much more useful inquiry to follow up on.
Reservations Without Another Outside System
We also built a reservation experience directly into the website.
Guests can choose an available date and submit their reservation without having to search for another platform or call the restaurant during service.
Keeping that experience on the Rockland Grub website means the restaurant has more control over the process and the customer stays within the same experience from browsing the menu to booking a table.
Giving the Staff Their Own Side of the System
Customer-facing features only work well if the staff can manage what comes through them.
We built a secure staff dashboard where the Rockland Grub team can review reservations and private event inquiries, see customer information, track the status of an inquiry, and follow up from one place.
The system also provides live notifications so new requests can reach the team while they are working instead of depending on someone remembering to check an inbox later.
The dashboard was built around the restaurant's existing workflow and connected with its Toast POS environment, allowing the website to work alongside the tools the restaurant already uses.
This is where the project became more than a website.
The public website handles the customer experience, while the private dashboard gives the staff a practical way to manage what those customers submit.
Building With the Restaurant, Not Just for It
Rockland Grub has continued to trust AliNQuality as the website has grown from a Wix migration into a larger custom system.
That relationship gives us the ability to keep looking for parts of the business where technology can remove unnecessary work or improve the customer's experience.
The next planned step is a phone agent designed for the times when the restaurant is too busy to immediately answer a call. The goal is for the agent to help the caller, collect what the restaurant needs, and pass relevant information into the systems the staff already uses rather than simply sending someone to voicemail.
The same idea has guided the project from the beginning:
Do not add technology just because it is available. Build something when it makes the experience easier for the customer or the people running the restaurant.
