A Niche E-Commerce Store That Needed a Better Foundation
PlasticCuttingBoards.com serves a very specific market. Customers are not simply shopping for a generic cutting board. Many are looking for an exact size, thickness, material, color, finish, or replacement board that fits a particular prep station model.
That makes the structure behind the website especially important.
The previous WooCommerce setup had grown expensive to operate, with server costs reaching roughly $1,500 per month, while the storefront itself needed a cleaner user experience and a stronger connection to the company's internal systems.
The goal was not to rebuild the store just for the sake of changing platforms.
It was to create a lighter e-commerce system that could handle a specialized catalog, use live business data, improve the shopping experience, and cost significantly less to operate.
Pricing and Inventory Could Not Live Separately
For a catalog with different dimensions, materials, colors, finishes, and product variations, maintaining information manually creates problems quickly.
Pricing can change. Stock can change. Product configurations can change.
The website needed to pull from a structured database so customers were seeing current information instead of relying on separately maintained website values.
The storefront needed to work as an extension of the company's internal systems, not as an isolated online catalog.
That also meant connecting the website back to Plastic-Craft's custom CRM so information could move between the systems the company was already using.
Search Had to Match How Customers Actually Buy
SEO presented a different challenge.
Someone searching for a replacement cutting board may search by the manufacturer and exact prep station model, not simply "plastic cutting board."
A generic category page would miss much of that demand.
PlasticCuttingBoards.com needed a structure that could connect individual replacement boards with the machines they were designed to fit, while giving search engines enough useful information to understand those relationships.
The store also needed to be structured so products could be prepared for Google Merchant Center, giving the catalog another path into Google search and shopping results.
Powerful for the Business, Simple for the Team
The final challenge was maintainability.
Not every website change should require a developer.
Plastic-Craft needed the custom pricing, inventory, integrations, and product logic behind the scenes, while still giving its non-technical team an easy way to update normal website content.
That required a mixed approach rather than forcing the entire website into one type of technology.
The goal was a store that was technically capable where it needed to be, but simple where it did not.
The Solution
What we built
Rebuilding the Store Around the Product
AliNQuality rebuilt PlasticCuttingBoards.com with the niche itself at the center of the project.
Rather than treating every item as a basic WooCommerce product, the new structure was designed around the information customers actually need when buying custom and replacement cutting boards.
Products can support different:
- Sizes
- Thicknesses
- Materials
- Colors
- Finishes
- Product variations
- Prep station manufacturers
- Compatible equipment models
This gave the storefront a cleaner user experience while making a complicated catalog easier to browse and maintain.
Live Pricing and Stock From the Database
One of the most important changes happened behind the storefront.
Pricing and inventory were tied into the company's data instead of being treated as separate values that had to be maintained independently on the website.
Through custom system integration, the store can pull the information it needs from the business systems behind it.
That creates a much stronger foundation for a catalog where product combinations and pricing can vary.
It also connects the e-commerce site back to Plastic-Craft's custom CRM, allowing the online store to function as part of the company's larger operation rather than becoming another disconnected system.
Lowering the Cost of Running the Store
The previous environment was costing approximately $1,500 per month to operate.
Part of the rebuild focused on making the website lighter and more efficient so Plastic-Craft did not need to keep paying enterprise-level infrastructure costs for work that could be handled much more economically.
Following the migration and infrastructure changes, monthly server costs moved closer to $400 per month while the storefront received a substantial UI and functionality upgrade.
The company was able to lower the cost of the website while improving what the website could actually do.
SEO Built Around Exact Equipment Models
For the prep station side of the business, we built the SEO structure around the way customers actually search for replacement parts.
PlasticCuttingBoards.com carries replacement boards for equipment from manufacturers such as APW, Beverage-Air, Delfield, Master-Bilt, Randell, True, Turbo Air, Victory, and others.
Instead of relying only on manufacturer category pages, matching prep station model information can be associated with the appropriate products.
This allows a customer looking for a very specific replacement to find information that matches the equipment they already own.
Each model can be supported with useful specifications and descriptive content, giving both the customer and search engines more context about the product.
This work forms part of the site's broader SEO and e-commerce growth structure.
Preparing the Catalog for Google Shopping
The product structure was also prepared with Google Merchant Center in mind.
Product information can be organized in a way that makes it easier to submit eligible items into Google's merchant ecosystem for indexing and shopping visibility.
For a niche product business, this matters because the customer may already know exactly what they need.
The easier it is for an exact size, replacement model, or product variation to appear when that search happens, the shorter the path from search to purchase becomes.
Custom Development Without Making Every Update Technical
The website uses a combination of Elementor, PHP, and JavaScript rather than forcing every part of the project into one development approach.
Elementor gives the internal team control over ordinary content and page updates without needing to edit code.
PHP and JavaScript handle the custom functionality where off-the-shelf tools are not enough.
That balance gives Plastic-Craft the flexibility to manage routine website changes internally while still supporting the database connections, product logic, and integrations the store depends on.
More Than $100,000 in Revenue Through a Specialized Storefront
PlasticCuttingBoards.com has contributed to more than $100,000 in revenue, showing what a focused e-commerce property can become when the product structure, customer experience, search strategy, and underlying business data are treated as one system.
The site was not built to compete as a general kitchen store.
It was built to become a stronger destination for a specific product category and make it easier for customers to find and purchase exactly what they need.
The Next Opportunity: Reducing Material Waste
The same system also creates opportunities beyond online sales.
AliNQuality has prepared functionality for calculating the most efficient cutting yield from a sheet of material.
The system can determine how multiple boards should be arranged on a sheet to produce the required pieces with less unused material.
That calculation can be exposed through an API to Plastic-Craft's CRM, allowing production workflows to use the same logic internally.
The functionality is not currently part of the live production process, but it creates a clear path for the project to move from increasing revenue on the storefront to helping reduce production overhead behind it.
That is the larger goal of the project: build an e-commerce system that sells well today while creating a foundation that can improve the rest of the operation tomorrow.
